What it adds per unit
| Product | Rate card | With surcharge | Difference | Peak, with surcharge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phone case, small standard 3 oz, $14.99 | $3.42 | $3.54 | +$0.12 | $3.74 |
| Kitchen tool, large standard 12 oz, $24.99 | $4.20 | $4.35 | +$0.15 | $4.64 |
| Water bottle, large standard 1.4 lb, $29.99 | $5.42 | $5.61 | +$0.19 | $5.93 |
| Yoga mat, small bulky 2.5 lb, $34.99 | $9.83 | $10.17 | +$0.34 | $11.25 |
Because it is a percentage, the surcharge grows with the fee: pennies on a small item, more on bulky and extra-large items. It also compounds with peak rates. The peak increment itself is marked up by 3.5%.
Why it matters for your numbers
Published rate cards, many fee tables and several free calculators show the pre-surcharge fee. If your spreadsheet was built from those, your fulfillment cost is understated by 3.5% on every unit. Our calculator applies the surcharge automatically for ship dates from April 17, 2026, and lets you switch it off to compare.
How to check your own fees
The surcharge shows on your settlement and transaction reports. Compare a recent FBA fee per unit with the rate card value for its tier, weight and price band: the gap should be 3.5%, rounded to the cent.
